<html> Topic 13

Forms of Feedback

This Week's Goals:

The web becomes truly interactive when your audience can respond to you. This week you will examine a) how Common Gateway Interface (cgi) scripts work; b) how to write the html code to include a form on your web page.

What to do This Week:

1. Class projects are due soon. Please fill out the form about your project on this site at /review.html

2. Please look at the View<Page Source> for this form you filled out about the project.

3. Read one or both of these two articles about cgi at

  1. "The Most Simple Introduction to CGI" at bignosebird.com at http://bignosebird.com/lscgi.shtml
  2. Tutorial on How CGI Works at Web Developers Virtual Library at http://Stars.com/Authoring/Scripting/WebWare/Server/

4. Read chapter 11 of Raggett on HTML 4, or chapter 11 in HTML for the World Wide Web, or chapters 10 and 11 in More Excellent HTML. Some of the other tutorials listed in the Resources link also may help, if you need to see this material explained in another way.

5. Read the comments about <form> in the link below.

6. Try the quiz if you find that useful.

7. Do this week's submission and post it on the web. If you need help, post your question to the ListServ with the topic of your message marked "Help for Unit 11."
